Quote:
“It didn't matter in the end how old they had been, or that they were girls, but only that we had loved them, and that they hadn't heard us calling, still do not hear us, up here in the tree house with our thinning hair and soft bellies, calling them out of those rooms where they went to be alone for all time, alone in suicide, which is deeper than death, and where we will never find the pieces to put them back together. ” (The Virgin Suicides, pg.249)
This quote is amazing. It contains imagery and metaphors.
I chose this quote because it was the ending of the book and it was really pretty but sad. These guys were obsessed with the Lisbon girls but they committed suicide so the guys could never understand them.
Analysis:
All throughout this book the guys were running around trying to find evidence to solve the mystery of the Lisbon girls. They found some pieces but never solved the problem. They never solved the problem because they did not exactly know what the problem was. They loved these girls but didn't know what they loved. Everything was a mystery. This made me very angry because I wanted to know why they all committed suicide. However, it was a great cliffhanger.
