Today we learned about first-person. These are the notes we took on this:

-one's mind
-very realistic (most)
-no author interpretation only the character
-questionable liability
-allows dramatic irony
-objective - dramatic

Today the internet is down. We have an extra day to turn in our learning and book blogs. I wasn't finished anyways so she graciously gave us another day to finish. It's also my anniversary today so I'm happy

Today we got time to work on our learning and book blogs. These blogs are due tomorrow, I am kind of scared. We have to have 10 book blogs and a max of 30 learning blogs. I hope I did my book blogs correctly because there is a certain form they have to be submitted in.

Today we read Gooseberries. The message was about social economics. It started off with two guys in the rain walking to this prosperous man's house. When the man opened the door he was filthy. Ivan told everyone a story about his brother. He was a dreamer and suffered to get to his dream. He wanted a gooseberry field, and just sit back. That did not happen, he was still unhappy and working. It symbolized the prosperous man, he was very successful but still working hard.

The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara was what we started off class with. This story was very interesting and had so many curse words. The author really wanted to get her point across and she did a good job of it. I liked this story, it showed a lot of unfairness of the society. Sylvia was the protagonist; she had indirect characterization and cognitive dissonance. She was a bitter little girl on the outside that really cared on the in. Also, we learned what the "rainbow game" is :/. That is just disgusting and degrading!

Well, today we started off looking up our movies we chose for literary fiction. Deja and I chose Les Miserables as our movie. It seemed like a good, entertaining, love type movie. From what I read; there was a guy who was in jail and got out, changed his ways and went under a new name. He created a successful business and he fell in love with this woman who had a child out of wedlock and was down on her luck. They took her child away and he went to get her but got in trouble again. The next part, I really wasn't clear on what happened but it seems nice. Off on the side I was doing my Biology project -______-

Today in class we talked about the story we read called The Interlopers. We had to make 5 inferences about the story. Inferences are predictions. Some of my inferences were; something bad is going to happen to one of these quarreling man, they might become friends, and nobody will get the piece of land. Well most of my predictions came true and by the end of the story we assumed these men died.
We also talked about formula stories:
1. Adventure to confront former beliefs
2. Protagonist achieves goal
3. Coming of Age
4. Feud -> Death -> Peace
5. Identity: Extreme |------------------------------------| Extreme

Today we started working on this new app which is called TextMe. Ms. Huddgins introduced us to this program which allows us to text her and ask or answer questions. The question today was "what are the differences between making inferences when text messaging and making inferences while reading fiction text?". Donald and I answered this question with, when texting you inference that you are texting the right person/number, spelling correctly, lingo. when reading you predict the ending, theme, etc.

Today we started reading How I Met My Husband. We have 6 questions to answer from this story. Edie was the main character and she was employed by Mrs. Peebles. Edie throughout the story does deviant acts. She puts on her bosses dress and Chris sees her. She kisses an engaged man and admits to it like she did nothing wrong. She waits for this man that she is so called "in love with" to write her a letter but it never shows. Since she stood by the mailbox waiting for this letter she ended up settling and marrying the mailman.

Today is our rivalry game. It is against Lincoln. They came to our school put chalk on the sidewalk and put signs up. We have to retaliate. I believe in our school and want us to win. Go Ypsi!
